Beatrice a young woman who clearly has opinions on whom she would want to be with and whom she would not. She is not as easily married, unlike her cousin Hero. When Benedick speaks to her with his snarky comments she gives it all right back ten fold. In this instance she very much reminds us of Kate, from "Taming of the Shrew". Her comments are not typical for a woman her age. Unlike Kate, she isn't as nasty as she is prickly. She is absolutely trying to get Benedick's attention and she most certainly does. While Bendedick tells his friends that he has no intention of marrying a woman and certainly not Beatrice...this is most definitely the ground work for a relationship. The head fights what the heart can not. Beatrice refers to Benedick as a jester. This is not a compliment at all and Benedick doesn't skip a beat in deflecting the little barbs she flings at him.
